Development Services
The staff at PSI Wales have been involved in strategic development initiatives for over fifteen years. Blended learning was a reality in practice for PSI personnel long before the term became ‘in vogue’ in education and training. Examples of the interventions are given below.
1989 - 1990:
Development of occupational standards within the NVQ framework. (Training Agency sponsored ).
1989 - 1991:
Manager and systems development consultants for Government sponsored training Organisations.
1990 - 1991:
Designed and implemented a project to test and develop occupational standards (administration) in the NHS in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. (NHS Training Directorate sponsored)
1991 - 1992:
Established a new Assessment Centre at Cardiff University for Training and Development Awards.
1992:
Consultants to South Glamorgan Family Health Services Authority - established an In-house assessment centre.
1992 - 1993:
Developed a Quality Manual and implemented quality systems for the School of Education commercial Training Unit which was then formally accredited to BS 5750 (later ISO 9000).
1993:
Consultants to Allied Steel and Wire - established an in-house assessment centre.
1994:
Consultants to St David’s Sixth Form College - development of quality systems in education (ISO 9000).Consultants to Pontypridd Technical College - established a students services division and devised management systems for monitoring student development.
Consultants to British Gas - established an in-house assessment centre.
1994 - 1995:
Consultants to a Local Authority - introduction of in-house assessment centres for NVQs across the Authority.Consultants to Mid Glam Social Services - staff development for line managers across the authority.
1995:
Consultants to RAF St. Athan - establishing ISO 9000 Quality Assurance Systems within training and assessment.European Universities Summer School, University of Barcelona - delivered a training programme on the application of ISO 9000 within education and training.
Consultants to Rathbone Community Industry Ltd - established an in-house assessment centre.
Consultants to Steel Industry- analysis of organisational management and communication structures and culture.
1996:
Consultants to CAMPUS Studies in Israel - advising on teacher continuous education.European Universities Summer School, University of Barcelona - delivered a training programme on the application of ISO 9000 within education and training incorporating cost/benefit analysis of staff development. (Simultaneously delivered via video conferencing to audience in Brussels )
1997:
Established Wales Assessment Centre for the National Professional Qualification for Headship, at Cardiff University.
1997 - 1998:
With the Thomson Foundation, Conducted National Training Needs Analysis and subsequently developed a National training programme for the Media Industry in Zambia.
1998:
Prepared and presented Television Broadcast on Zambian National Television on cost-effective Workplace Learning for the Zambian Institute of Human Resource ManagementConsultants to Makerere University Uganda on establishing a Learning and Development Unit.
Consultants to Welsh Development Agency - evaluated the Strategic approaches to Globalisation (SAGE) Project.
Consultants to VOTRACO Project - Designed and implemented research system for the evaluation of the effectiveness of vocational training in five EU countries.
Consultants to Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management - staff and organisational development.
1999:
Consultants to DfEE - establishing a national mentorship pilot scheme in selected Education Action Zones.Established Higher Education Link (British Council funded) with Makerere University Uganda.
Appointed as deliverers of Vocational Training to European Commission staff.
2000:
Consultant to Merthyr Tydfil Further Education College – establishment of college – wide staff appraisal scheme.Evaluation of the Staff Development Performance Review Scheme (SDPR) for teachers in Northern Ireland.
Established Higher Education Link (British Council Funded) with Lahore College of Home Economics Pakistan.
2001:
Consultants to Nakeseke Multipurpose Community Telecentre, Uganda.
2001-2002:
Evaluation of the ‘Mentoring for Older Learners’ programme, National Institute for Adult Continuing Education in Wales.Design and implementation of the evaluation strategy for work-related education in Wales. (Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales).
Design and implementation of a user evaluation of the Cardiff University Health Centre provision.
Design and implementation of a user evaluation of the Cardiff University Graduate Centre provision.
2002:
Design and delivery of training programmes for Further Education mentors in Blackburn.Design and launch of the PSI Passport to Work Programme.
Delivered media interview techniques training for Executives in the Federation of Small Businesses.
Designed and delivered workshop on manager development and succession planning for Zambian Institute of Human Resource Management, Lusaka Zambia.
Design and delivery of training programme for adult mentors for National Institute for Adult Continuing Education in Wales.
Design of corporate communication strategy for Federation of Small Businesses, Wales.
2003:
Design and launch of the PSI Passport to Life Programme.Designed and delivered media interview techniques training for Executives in the Federation of Small Businesses.
Designed and delivered advanced communications skills training for 20 senior academic staff at Makerere University Kampala Uganda.
Design and launch of the PSI Passport to Support Programme.
Designed and delivered mentorship training for undergraduates in 22 Universities in
England for the Department for Education and Skills.
Designed and delivered project management training for senior academics from Government College Lahore and the University of the Punjab together with representatives of the national charity Bunyad.
Designed and delivered training in project management, project design and conducting training needs analysis for visiting senior academics from Makerere University Kampala Uganda.
2004:
Developed strategic learning intervention for Falkirk Local Authority, Scotland.Designed and implemented strategy for change in learning applications for TD Services Ltd (Wales).
Designed and implemented development for a management communication change-strategy for Fourth Valley Enterprise.
2005:
Designed and delivered training for 14 senior academic staff in advanced communication, facilitation of learning and gender mainstreaming at Makerere University Kampala Uganda.Delivered trainer training for Scottish Enterprise cluster consisting of Stirling Council, Lauder College and Vision Training.
Presented Regional CPD session for school coordinators in Hampshire on Curriculum integration of PHSE, Citizenship, Work-related Learning and Enterprise Education.
Evaluated Workplace Coaching as a mechanism for updating Social Work staff at Cardiff Social Services.
Delivered Inset training on Passport to Life for teaching staff at Sundridge School, Hampshire.
2006:
Evaluation of anti-bullying policies across all schools in Wales for Welsh Assembly Government.Developed and delivered advanced communications and professional development for teaching staff at Dundalk Institute for Technology.
